I am worried about my outdoor crop this summer due to termites. For the past two years termites have been eating my plants from the ground up and have destroyed two of my best girls. I sprayed Seven but the problem is they are internal. My question is, being early in the season, is there a way to prepare the soil and destroy the termites now before planting in the spring without the effects of termites?

    Hi D-Man,
welcome to the forum. I have experience with carpenter ants and termites. The first thing you need to do is figure out the location of the problem. You need to find out why you have so many termites in your area. Either it be a dead old tree that needs to be getting rid of or an old shed. Look at all the wooded structures near your outdoor grow area. After you find where the termites are coming from, get rid of all destroyed and infested wood and nests. Go to your local feed store or hardware store your gonna want to get a carpenter ant/ termite spray and spray all infected areas heavily, sometimes 2-3 times, try avoiding spraying where you will be planting your next crop. Heavy chemicals. Where you are planting, sprinkle diatomaceous earth. When you go to plant the next crop make sure you use integrated pest management during your vegetation cycle, and extra precautionary ideas while flowering trying not to spray your flowers (sticky traps, granular silica in your soil, compost tea’s). The most important thing to do though is find the location of the problem and destroy it and get rid of the nest.

Hit up the locations like Braveheart said and If you can, plant in containers on top of sender blocks. Also layer the bottom and around the containers with diatomaceous earth so them little fucks get all cut up LOL. I personally never plant in the ground for control reasons.

Thanks guys! I already did what you recommended last year. There is a redwood fence about five feet away and pretty much all redwood fences in Cali have termites. There are also bushes close to the planting area and I already removed any dead wood. I have been using diatomaceous earth around all my plants. It seems there is a nest underground and I am looking for some sort of spike or device to rid them from my garden. I have been growing there for twenty years and never had a problem until the last two. Thanks for the advice though!!!!
